Punjab hooch tragedy: Two Congress MPs attack Amarinder Singh govt over deaths
New Delhi/IBNS: Two senior leaders of Punjab-Pratap Singh Bajwa and Shamsher Singh Dullo-have written to the governor attacking their own government over the spurious liquor tragedy in the state that left 108 dead.
This letter is another reflection of the infighting within Congress in some states such as Rajasthan.
In their letter to Governor VP Singh Badnore, the two leaders, who are also Rajya Sabha MPs, have alleged failure of the state's "administrative machinery" over the issue which.
"Smuggling, functioning of illegal distillaries, production and circulation of spurious liquor cannot be done without the active connivance of officers if the Excise and Taxation Department as well as the police department," their letter read.
A whopping 108 people have died across three districts of the state since last week after drinking hooch.
Earlier, the state government suspended seven excise staff and six police personnel in connection with the case.
The police have also arrested 37 people related to the case.
The opposition has been already demanding the resignation of Chief Minister Amarinder Singh, who has warned punishment for those found involved in the manufacture and sale of the illicit liquor, directly or indirectly.
