President, PM condole loss of lives in Telangana accident

New Delhi, July 24 (IBNS): President Pranab Mukherjee and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Thursday condoled the loss of lives in accident in which a passenger train hit a school bus at an unmanned railway crossing in the Telangana.
In his message to Governor of Telangana E.S.L. Narasimhan, the President said, “I am extremely saddened to learn about the accident in which some school children lost their lives and many others are critically injured after a passenger train hit a school bus at an unmanned railway crossing in Telangana. I understand relief operations are underway."
 
"I am sure that the State Government and other agencies are taking necessary steps to provide urgent medical assistance to the injured and all possible aid to the bereaved families," he said.
 
Mukherjee said: "Please convey my heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased. I wish speedy recovery to the injured persons.”
 
Prime Minister Narendra Modi also expressed his deepest condolences to the families of those who lost their lives in the accident in Medak district.
 
"The Prime Minister prays for the speedy recovery of those injured in the accident," read a statement issued by the Prime Minister's Office (PMO).
 
In one of the worst accidents at an unmanned level crossing, at least 18 school children were killed when their bus was hit by a train on Thursday morning in a village in Medak district of Telangana, said reports.
 
The bus driver was also killed in the accident.
 
"This was a very unfortunate incident," said Railway Minister Sadananda Gowda who had in his Rail Budget speech announced to do away with all unmanned level crossings in India.
 
He said he will make a statement on the incident at 3 PM in Parliament.
 
Railway Minister Sadananda Gowda informed the Lok Sabha about the accident which took place at an unmanned level crossing .
 
Reports said the driver was in haste to take the students to school when the incident occurred.
 
Reports said the bus was carrying students of Kakatiya School.
 
Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao condoled the death and assured an inquiry.
