President condoles the passing away of Vahanvati

New Delhi, Sept 3 (IBNS): President Pranab Mukherjee on Wednesday condoled the passing away of Goolam Essaji Vahanvati, former Attorney General of India.

In a condolence message to his wife, Nafisa Vahanvati, President has said, “I am extremely saddened to learn about the passing away of your husband, Goolam E. Vahanvati, former Attorney General of India.”

Describing Vahanvati as an eminent personality, Pranab said, “Vahanvati rendered distinguished services as the Attorney General and the Solicitor General of India. Starting his practice in Mumbai, he ably handled various matters involving important constitutional issues. In his death, we have lost a highly respected and an eminent personality, whose contributions to the field of law shall always be remembered.”

In the message to bereaved family, President said, “Kindly accept my heartfelt condolences and convey the same to other members of your family. I pray to the Almighty to give you and your family the strength and courage to bear this irreparable loss”.

Former Attorney General Goolam E. Vahanvati breathed his last on Tuesday after he suffered a heart attack. He was 65.

Vahanvati was reportedly suffering from a lung infection. He was the 13th Attorney General for India.
