PM Modi's UNGA speech: India has developed world's first DNA vaccine for Covid-19, can be given to anyone above 12 yrs

United States/IBNS: India has developed the world's first DNA vaccine that can be administered to anyone above the age of 12, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said during his address at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) as he invited pharma companies across the world to  "Come, make vaccine in India."

"Despite limited resources, India - which believes in the philosophy of "Seva Param Dharam" (service is the highest religion) - is completely invested in the development and manufacture of the vaccines," Modi stressed as he addressed the UNGA for the fourth time as the Prime Minister of India.

He spoke in detail about Zydus Cadila's three-dose COVID-19 DNA vaccine that has received the nod of the drug regulator DCGA last month.

ZyCoV-D is the world's first plasmid DNA vaccine against coronavirus.

"There is another m-RNA vaccine, which is in the final stages of development. Our country's scientists are also involved in the development of a nasal vaccine for coronavirus."

"While understanding the responsibility towards humanity, India has yet again started giving vaccines to those who need it," the Prime Minister said.

Earlier this week, the government said vaccine exports will be resumed in the fourth quarter given that India's vaccine production has surged.

PM Modi has told the Quad leaders that India will export 8 million COVID-19 vaccines by end of October as per the agreement reached by the grouping of Australia, India, Japan and the United States in March.

"The world has been grappling with the worst pandemic in the last 100 years," the prime minister said and paid respects to those who have lost their lives due to coronavirus.

"The pandemic has taught the world that the global economy should be more diversified now," PM Modi added.
