PM Modi remembers Indira Gandhi on her death anniversary

New Delhi, Oct 31 (IBNS): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday paid homage to former Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi on her death anniversary.

Modi tweeted: "I join my fellow countrymen & women in remembering former PM Smt. Indira Gandhi on her Punya Tithi."

President Pranab Mukherjee, Vice-President Hamid Ansari, Congress supremo Sonia Gandhi, vice-president Rahul Gandhi visited Indira Gandhi's memorial Shakti Sthal here to pay homage to the leader.

No one from the Central government was present at the venue, reports said.

In 1984, Indira Gandhi was assassinated on this day by her guards.

Born in Nov 19, 1917, Gandhi is considered to be one of the most successful Prime Minister o the country. He father Jawaharlal Nehru is considered to be a pioneer figure in the political paradigm of the nation.

She served as the Prime Minister of India for three consecutive terms between 1966 to 1977 and a fourth term in 1980–1984.
