PM Modi arrives in Mauritius, meets president Rajkeswur Purryag

Port Louis, Mar 11 (IBNS): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday arrived in Mauritius on the second league of his visit to three nations.

He arrived in Mauritius from  Seychelles and met country's president Rajkeswur Purryag.

"First call PM @narendramodi calls on Prez Rajkeswur Purryag of Mauritius soon after arrival in Port Louis," MEA spokesperson Syed Akbaruddin tweeted.

He has been  invited to the nation to be the Chief Guest at the Independence Day celebrations in Mauritius on Mar 12.

"I look forward to discussing with Prime Minister Sir Anerood Jugnauth ways in which we can further deepen our strategic partnership. I also look forward to meeting the entire political leadership of Mauritius, which has provided unstinting support for this relationship," Modi earlier said before leaving India for his tour to the three countries.

He earlier went to Seychelles and and said his 'short' visit to the nation had been 'productive'.

"We regard Seychelles as a vital partner in our Indian Ocean neighbourhood. Our relationship is unique and special. It is founded on deep sense of mutual trust and confidence. It is marked by a spirit of respect and equality; and enormous goodwill and warmth," he said.

"Today, I am pleased to announce that we will be giving one more Dornier aircraft to Seychelles," he said,

Modi said India hopes that Seychelles will soon be a full partner in the maritime security cooperation between India, Maldives and Sri Lanka.

He said : "We have decided to grant free visas for three months to the citizens of Seychelles. We will also extend to you the facility of visa-on-arrival."
