People involved in the chopper scam should be punished: Modi

Hosur, May 6 (IBNS): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday broke his silence on the AgustaWestland scam, which is witnessing an exchange of barbs in the Parliament between the ruling BJP and the Congress, and said those involved in the crime should be 'punished'.

"People involved in the chopper scam should be punished," Modi said while addressing a rally on Friday.

He said he is fighting against corruption.

The Supreme Court on Friday  issued a notice to the Centre  on a petition seeking registration of an FIR against all the people named in an Italian court judgement in the controversial AgustaWestland chopper deal, reports said.

A bench comprising Justices Dipak Misra and Shiva Kirti Singh issued notice on the PIL that sought a court-monitored probe in the case.

The PIL was filed  last week by advocate ML Sharma.

It sought lodging of FIR against political leaders, including Congress President Sonia Gandhi and former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, whose names have allegedly been mentioned in the Ialian court's judgement.

CBI had in 2013 registered a case in connection with alleged bribes paid by the firm to Indians get the deal for supplying 12 helicopters for VVIPs.
