Milan, Sept 26 (IBNS): West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday said the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)'s 12-hour state-wide bandh, which has been called to protest killing of two students at Islampur College in North Dinachpur district, is a complete failure.

Mamata, who is presently in Italy, made the comment while interacting with two Bengali news channel correspondents.

Speaking about the bandh, the Chief Minister said: "I thank people who made the bandh a failure. Police will take action against all those who are setting buses and properties on fire."

Mamata's Trinamool Congress (TMC), which rules West Bengal, opposed the bandh and made attendance of state government employees compulsory on Wednesday as well as on Sept 25 and 27. The Left too opposed the bandh.

Several clashes have occurred between the BJP and TMC supporters in various parts of the state during the bandh, local news report said.

In Shyambazar area of north Kolkata, BJP and TMC supporters had a heated argument at around 9:30 am.

Tension occurred in Arapur and Malda as BJP supporters  attacked cars.

Train services in various parts of the state have been disrupted  by bandh supporters since morning.

Eleven people have been arrested so far by police from Cossipore area of north Kolkata, The Times Of India reported.

BJP state president Dilip Ghosh said: "Government buses are running but there are very less people in those vehicles. We are not stopping buses forcefully."
