Panaji, Jan 25 (IBNS) : A prisoner was killed and nine people, including a jailor, when about 49 prisoners at Sada sub jail in Goa, clashed with security men while trying to escape on Tuesday night, reports said.

Vinayak Korbatkar, an inmate, was allegedly stabbed to death in the melee.

Jailor Vitthal Gawas and two security persons besides six inmates, who were injured in the incident are being treated in hospital.

Reports said the prisoners' attempt to escape was foiled as no one could flee.

The prisoners first kicked up a ruckus over a petty matter,  destroyed jail property and attacked the jail staff.

A reinforcement from different police stations rushed to the jail to bring the situation under control.
