Kandhamal, Jan 13 (IBNS): Months after she was allegedly raped, a Class VIII student gave birth in a tribal residential school hostel on Sunday, Hindustan Times reported.

The school authorities allegedly tried to hush up the matter.

“The girl was raped eight months ago when she had gone to her village. She did not report the ordeal due to fear and shame. The main accused has been arrested,” the report quoted Kandhamal police superintendent Pratik Singh as saying.

Both the mother and the baby are reportedly stable.

According to the report, six school officials were dismissed for not reporting the matter and the school headmistress was questioned by the police.
