Narendra Modi meets Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on sidelines of BRICS

Johannesburg, July 27 (IBNS): Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday met Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on the sidelines of the BRICS Summit here.

Modi also congratulated the leader for being re-elected as the President of the nation.

Modi said he had a 'wonderful' meeting with the President.

He said several issues related to the India-Turkey cooperation was discussed during the meeting.

"Had a wonderful meeting with the President of Turkey, Mr. @RT_Erdogan. Our talks covered multiple areas of India-Turkey cooperation and how to further cement bilateral relations for the benefit of our citizens," Modi tweeted.

Speaking about the meeting, India's External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Raveesh Kumar tweeted: " The last engagement in Johannesburg! PM @narendramodi met the Turkish President Recep Erdogan on the sidelines of #BRICSSummit2018. PM congratulated President Erdogan on his re-election as the President. #IndiaatBRICS."

Modi attended the BRICS summit in South Africa and met several world leaders on the sidelines of the event.

Before arriving in South Africa, Modi toured Rwanda and Uganda.

This was the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister to Rwanda and the first visit by our Prime Minister to Uganda in over 20 years.
