Mumbai Police files complaint against meat shop owner after video of 'Ram' scribbled on goat's body ahead of Bakrid goes viral

Mumbai Police have filed a complaint against a meat shop owner after a social media post went viral which showed 'Ram' scribbled on the skin of a goat which was set to be sold ahead of the Eid al-Adha (Bakrid) festival.

India will observe the festival on that day.

"In accordance with the said complaint, a case has been registered under CBD Belapur Police Station Crime Register No. 123/2024," the police posted on Saturday as quoted by Inida TV.

An official told the news channel: " According to the preliminary information received, a goat with Ram's name written on it was kept for sale at Good Luck Mutton Shop in CBD Sector One, Navi Mumbai. A complaint was registered under relevant sections of the IPC and police have detained the shop owner."

HIndutva Knight posted on X:  "This is outrageous. A goat sold by "Good luck mutton store" with Ram name written on it. Goat will be slaughtered on bakrid in open to deliberately incite Hindu community Requesting@Navimumpolice @MumbaiPoliceto take strong action for deliberately causing law & order issue."
