Mumbai, Mar 21 (IBNS): As the mass leave taken by doctors entered into its second day on Tuesday, the Bombay High Court has stepped in and asked the doctors to resume duties immediately, according to media reports.

Failure to join duties would be considered as contempt of court, the HC said.

Nearly 4,500 Resident doctors across Mumbai and several other parts of Maharashtra went on  mass leave on Monday following three incidents of violence in which several of them were where attacked, reports said.

The doctors, in their leave applications, have said that they cannot work under such life-threatening conditions.

After an attack on a resident doctor at Sion hospital on Saturday, doctors in Mumbai called a strike refusing to handle the OPD and emergency cases.

Although Mayor of Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) Vishwanath Mahadeshwar has said that precautionary measure are being implemented and 700 armed personnel will be deployed from April 1, the doctors on leave have complained that arrangements are far short of what is required, according to media reports.
