Srinagar/UNI: Minister of State for Defence Ajay Bhatt reviewed the security situation and operational preparedness at the Line of Control (LoC) and hinterland in Kashmir valley.

Defence Ministry spokesperson Colonel Emron Musavi this evening said Bhatt is on a two-day visit to Kashmir to review the prevailing security situation in the UT.

“On arrival at Srinagar on Saturday, he was received by Lt Gen DP Pandey, GOC Chinar Corps and was briefed about the existing security situation and the measures being taken to safeguard the borders and hinterland from adversaries,” he said.

He said Mr Bhatt was briefed on the efforts of the Army to identify and target the Over Ground Workers (OGWs) involved in radicalisation and recruitment of youth into militant ranks. “Efforts to prevent local recruitment and facilitate surrender of local militants were also discussed,” Col Musavi said.

He said on Sunday, the MoS Defence laid a wreath at Chinar Corps War Memorial.

On his visit to a forward post, he was briefed by the local commanders on the overall situation pertaining to the Line of Control (LoC).

While interacting with troops, Mr Bhatt expressed his appreciation for Indian Army, which is relentlessly battling Pakistan abetted militancy.

He further reinforced the need to be prepared to meet the emerging security challenges effectively.
