Met dept predicts western disturbance in J&K

Srinagar, Feb 16 (IBNS): A fresh western disturbance over Jammu & Kashmir and adjoining areas is likely to affect the state from Feb 16 to 24 with occasional gaps, a weather department official said on Monday.

According to officials of Meteorological Department here in Srinagar, weather advisory said that under the influence, moderate rain and thundershower and snowfall over higher reaches will occur at most places of Kashmir & Jammu divisions and at many places of Ladakh region.

Official further said that some places may receive heavy rain/ snow during this period. These weather conditions may trigger landslide and avalanche in vulnerable areas of the state.

Weather disturbance will also disrupt surface and air transport during these days. 

During above period, there will be significant decrease in day temperatures and slight rise in night temperature. Official said.

Meanwhile Gulmarg, the famous ski-resort in north Kashmir experienced trivial respite from the cold wave with fresh snowfall as the temperature rose to stay above the freezing point at most of the places in the Valley on Monday.
