Mamata Banerjee acting as speed breaker to Bengal's development: PM Modi in Siliguri

Siliguri, Apr 3 (IBNS): Tearing apart West Bengal's ruling party Trinamool Congress here, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday said Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is acting as a speed breaker to the development of the state.

"We have launched a number of schemes but people of Bengal are not benefiting from them because Didi (Mamata Banerjee) is acting as a speed breaker," the Prime Minister said kick-starting his Lok Sabha poll campaign in the eastern state.

"Looking at the huge crowd, I am now sure that Didi's boat has sank" Modi, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)'s main campaigner, said.

The Prime Minister touched upon the chit fund scams and accused Trinamool leaders of looting poor people's money.

"Mamata Banerjee's ministers, MLAs and leaders have looted poor people's money through the chit funds," the Prime Minister said.

Also Modi raised the National Register of Citizens (NRC) issue to state all illegal immigrants will be thrown out.

Hitting out at Banerjee's comment on Balakot airstrike, the Prime Minister said Pakistan and the Trinamool chief were unhappy due to the Indian Air Force (IAF)'s reply to the Pulwama terror attack.

Trinamool supremo Banerjee had raised doubts over the number of terrorists killed in the airstirke.

After Siliguri, Modi will hold a rally at the iconic Brigade Parade Ground.

Two constituencies of West Bengal- Alipurduar and Coochbehar- will go to polls in the first phase on Apr 11.
