At least seven people died after an alleged fake cardiologist is suspected to have treated them at a hospital in Madhya Pradesh's Damoh district.

The National Human Rights Commission is currently investigating the case.

NHRC member Priyank Kanoongo said its team will camp in  Damoh from April 7 to April 9 to probe the incident.

“A complaint was received that a fake doctor performed cardiac surgeries and caused the deaths of several people. It was also reported that the missionary hospital used to receive money from the government under the Ayushman Bharat scheme,” Priyank Kanoongo told ANI.

"This is a grave allegation. The commission is taking cognizance of this and further investigation is being conducted," he added.

According to reports, the alleged fake doctor has been using the name  'Dr N John Camm'.

He showed he was educated and trained from abroad.

According to a complaint lodged against him, the person misused the name of a famous cardiologist from the United Kingdom, Professor John Camm, to mislead the patients.

In a separate X post,  Priyank Kanoongo said: "Our team will reach Damoh tomorrow morning for investigation, sources have told that fearing the action of the commission, CMHO is sitting in Damoh police station at midnight and filing an FIR.."

"In the text of the FIR, full preparations are being made to save Pastor Ajay Lal, the director and head of the missionary hospital run by Central India Christian Mission," he said.

"No culprit will be allowed to escape," he said.
