Madhya Pradesh CM to fast from tomorrow 'for peace'

Bhopal, June 9 (IBNS): Amid the violent protest of the farmers that the state has witnessed this week, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan announced that he will be fasting from Saturday "for peace", according to media reports.

Chouhan will sit for the fast at Dussehra Maidan in the capital city of the state, where the farmers are allowed to come and discuss their demands with the CM.

"I request everyone to come and discuss their problems with me and I will fast as well as run the government," Chouhan was quoted saying in the media.

Farmers from the state of Madhya Pradesh were protesting for last few weeks over the demands of better crop price and loan waive, but the whole scenario took a violent turn on Tuesday after police opened the fire, that killed six farmers in Mandsaur.

The conflict started after farmers blocked road, ransacked property and set vehicles on fire, which was followed by the firing.

Though the home minister of MP earlier refused to accept that five deaths were caused by the police firing, yesterday took a U-turn to admit it as a cause.

Eyeing the assembly election in the state the next year, opposition parties geared up to get a political prominence and made attacks on the BJP government of Madhya Pradesh.

Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi rode a bike to reach Mandsaur but the police prevented him to enter the place and later arrested.

The ruling party of the state accused the Congress for instigating the farmers.

The police has currently barred entry of any political parties in the region.

In several states like Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal, the farm loans have been waived by the respective state governments for the near future.

After coming to power, UP CM Yogi Adityanath, followed by WB CM Mamata Banerjee announced the waiving of farm loans.
