Kolkata, Oct 4 (IBNS): Kolkata Port Trust (KoPT) has plan for development of existing and additional parking terminals at an estimated cost of Rs 5.5 crore approximately and its capacity will be of holding 522 trailers, said M T Krishna Babu, Chairman, KoPT, here on Tuesday.

Among these terminals, 6670 sq m of Bhutghat parking will be developed at an estimated cost of Rs 58 lakh and it will be having holding 82 trailers. Similarly, 8570 sq m of coal dock, additional 5500sq m of ITC/GCD extension and 14,000 sq m of Sonai M & Q block will be developed at an estimated cost of Rs 100 lakh and 190 lakh respectively, he added.

Babu pointed out that as against an average daily container exchange (both import delivery and export receiving) of 1806 TEUs from July 1, 2016 to September 23, 2016, the average daily exchange since September 24, 2016 is down to 1328 TEUs.

Yard inventory is gradually building up with Port heading for congestion which will ultimately affect vessel work. In this situation, he said, KoPT has made temporary parking arrangement at 15/16 coal berths in KPD-II (West), a non-International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) and customs de-notified area for holding not less than 150 trailers.

Babu in this context referred that trucks with Entry Gate Passes (EGP) will be permitted to move to NSD gate, even during restricted hours with police concurrence. It is to be mentioned that according to Kolkata Police notification, dated Sept 29, 2016, all classes of goods vehicles will be restricted to ply on major roads leading to Kolkata Dock System (KDS). For heavy goods vehicles the restriction is imposed between 8 am and 10 pm and for medium and light goods vehicles the time is limited between 8 am and 12 noon and again between 4 pm and 10 pm at night.
