Kolkata, May 29 (IBNS): The youth wing of West Bengal's ruling party Trinamool Congress on Tuesday hit the streets of Kolkata to protest the fuel price hike for 15 consecutive days across the country.

The protest was led by All India Trinamool Youth Congress (AITYC) president and Lok Sabha MP Abhishek Banerjee.

Interacting with a local news channel, Abhishek said: "Petrol and diesel prices are rising everyday. This hurts the transport facilities. The central government is taking all anti-people steps."

He has also warned that the TMC will take the agitation to the national capital, New Delhi.

Several veteran party leaders like Partha Chatterjee and Sovandeb Chattopadhyay were also present at the rally.

The fuel prices in the country has already crossed Rs. 80 per litre, creating discomfort for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which rules the central government.

The fuel price had risen for last sixteen days.

West Bengal Chief Minister and TMC chief Mamata Banerjee on Monday lashed out at the ruling BJP over the fuel price hike.

She tweeted, "Fuel prices are increasing again and again. All are being badly affected: agriculture, transport and common people are being forced to bear burden. In spite of the grim situation, why isn't the Central Govt taking any serious steps to find a solution ? They need to act"

The government is likely to call a meeting to find a solution to the price hike.

BJP president and Rajya Sabha MP, Amit Shah, on last Tuesday, assured that the government will come up with a solution within two to three days.
