Kolkata: Businessman held for raping Assam student multiple times

Kolkata, Apr 5 (IBNS): Hours after a woman student from Assam alleged of being raped several times, the Kolkata Police on Tuesday midnight arrested the prime accused in the case, Rakesh Chowdhury, from Salt Lake Sector III area, officials said.

According to reports, a young woman, who came to Kolkata from Assam's capital Guwahati for higher education last year, on Tuesday lodged a complaint at Lake Police Station in south Kolkata saying that she was raped multiple times since June last year and blackmailed with obscene videos by a city-based businessman.

Following an FIR was registered, police started probe into the case and nabbed accused Rakesh Chowdhury, who is the founder-director of an IT firm in Salt Lake.

After being charged under several IPC sections, including 376 (Rape) and 506 (Criminal intimidation), the man was produced in a local court at Alipore on Wednesday and was sent to police custody for 2 days.

He will be produced before the same court again on Friday (Apr 7), according to reports.
