Kashmir: Man shot dead by gunmen

Srinagar, June 21 (IBNS) A man was killed and another person was seriously injured after unknown gunmen fired upon them at Seelo Sopore in north Kashmir's Baramulla district on Friday late evening.

Police sources said that the militants fired on the residential house of one Khazir Mohammad Naikoo.

In the incident, two people, identified as Nazir Ahmad Naikoo - son of Khazir Mohammad - and his cousin, student Shabir Ahmad, suffered critical injuries, sources said.

The duo was immediately shifted to Sub District Hospital-Sopore where Nazir Ahmad Naikoo, a contractor by profession, succumbed to his injuries.

Meanwhile, injured Shabir Ahmad was referred to SKIMS Soura in a critical condition.

Soon after the incident, a joint team of security forces cordoned off the whole area and launched a search operation to nab the assailants.

Meanwhile, the police said that the deceased's father was a Block President of Congress party.

The police have registered a case and started investigations.
