Kashmir: Gunfight in Rajouri's Thannamandi, JCO killed

Jammu/UNI: A Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO) was killed, while another jawan suffered injuries in an ongoing encounter with terrorists in Thanamandi area of Rajouri district in Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday.

"During an operation with terrorists, one JCO of Rashtriya Rifles suffered bullet injuries. He was immediately evacuated to the nearest medical facility where he succumbed to his injuries," an Army officer said.

The gunfight broke out early this morning at Karyote Kalyas village in Thanamandi area where a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) was launched on getting information.

"As the forces were zeroing in on the suspected spot, terrorists fired upon them, triggering an encounter," police said.

"The exchange of fire was on," the police added.
