Karnataka CM Yediyurappa reverses his order on payment of ex-gratia to police firing incidents
Mangaluru/UNI: Taking a reverse turn over his order to pay a cash compensation of Rs 10 lakh each for the two victims of the police firing incident in Mangaluru, Karnataka Chief minister B S Yediyurappa said that there was no convention to pay ex-gratia to those who were facing criminal charges.
Addressing the media here on Wednesday, the Chief minister informed that it was decided not to pay cash compensation to the next to the kins of those who were killed in the police firing incident on December 19 Mangaluru riots.
He said, "The decision to pay compensation will be taken only after completion of the CID and Magistraterial probe ordered by the state Government."
Defending his decision to back his promise on payment of solatium to the next to the kins of the victims of the police firing in which two persons were killed in the rioting incident, he said, "There is no any convention to pay compensation to those who were facing criminal charges."
Earlier the Chief minister had chaired a meeting of the senior police officials and briefed over the present situation in the coastal city.
Home minister Basavaraj Bommai and senior Police officials were also present on the occasion.
