J&K: Soldier injured during gunfight with militants

Srinagar, May 22 (IBNS) The Army on Sunday said that a soldier was wounded during a gunfight with militants in north Kashmir’s Drugmulla area succumbed at a hospital.

Naik Gawade Pandurang Mahadev, who was critically injured in a fierce encounter with militants at chak Drugmulla  in Kupwara on Saturday, succumbed to his injuries today, said a spokesman.

The soldier, he added, was part of the column which initially located and engaged with the hiding militants, leading to killing of all five militants.

Defence Spokesman Col N.N Joshi said that Lt Gen DS Hooda has expressed deep condolences to the family of the soldier.

“Mortal remains of the soldier will be flown to his village in Sindudurg District of Maharashtra after necessary formalities,” he said.
