Jet Airways, ActionAid partner to rehabilitate communities affected by TN floods

New Delhi, Dec 7 (IBNS): Jet Airways India Ltd will partner with ActionAid India to reach out and rebuild the lives of flood affected communities in Chennai and Thiruvallur district in Tamil Nadu.
The immediate joint efforts by Jet Airways and ActionAid will focus on providing food and essential items such as drinking water, health and sanitary kits, mosquito nets and repellents, clothing, utensils, sleeping mats, bed rolls, materials for temporary shelters, learning resources/stationary and in providing psycho-social support.
 
Cramer Ball, Chief Executive Officer, Jet Airways said: “Lives of many people in Chennai and neighbouring region have been severely impacted by the floods. Jet Airways has partnered with ActionAid to bring immediate relief to those most in need in this unfortunate situation. Namrata Goyal will lead the Jet Airways efforts on this project while Jet Airways staff from across the country will also volunteer to lend a helping hand and work shoulder-to-shoulder with the people of the region for on-ground relief efforts."
 
In the long-term, the partnership will focus on rehabilitation including recovery and development of livelihoods, reconstruction and repair of damaged houses of over 2000 people. It will also work towards providing vocational skills training and employment opportunities to women from these communities for them to rebuild their lives.

To this end, we are proud to join hands with ActionAid India, a leading development organisation, which has been at the forefront of humanitarian response and rehabilitation. ActionAid India has been responding in four districts of Tamil Nadu providing relief and rehabilitation support since early November
 
Sandeep Chachra, Executive Director of ActionAid India said: "We are happy to partner with Jet Airways in transforming lives and livelihoods of the most excluded and marginalised women from Irula tribals, homeless and slum communities".
 
As an immediate response to support those affected by floods in and around Chennai, Jet Airways is currently flying doctors and relief items to Tamil Nadu.
