Bangalore, Sep 29 (IBNS): AIADMK chief J Jayalalithaa, who was sentenced to four years of imprisonment in a corruption case on Saturday, moved the Karnataka High Court on Monday seeking bail.

Sources said Karnataka HC will hear Jayalalithaa's bail plea on Tuesday. The bail plea will be taken up by a vacation bench of the court.

It was also learnt that noted lawyer Ram Jethmalani is likely to represent Jayalalithaa in the court.

Meanwhile, AIADMK chief’s loyal aide O Panneerselvam, 63, is to be sworn in as the new chief minister in Jayalalithaa’s place. He was the state finance minister and will take over for the second term as Tamil Nadu CM in similar circumstances.

Panneerselvam met Jayalalithaa at Bangalore’s Central jail on Sunday.

Sources said members of the AIADMK are scheduled to stage protest outside the residence of DMK chief M Karunanidhi on Monday.
