Jammu and Kashmir: Explosive shell goes off in Kulgam, civilian dies

Srinagar, Oct 21 (IBNS): At least one civilian was killed as an explosive shell went off at an encounter site in Jammu and Kashmir's Kulgam area on Sunday, police said.

The incident left several others injured.

"Civilians visited encounter site immediately after operation inspite of request not to visit as thorough search wason for explosives.They didn’t listened and thus visited the spot.Some explosive substance went off resulting in injuries to http://civilians.One  civilian died," the Jammu and Kashmir Police tweeted.

Condoling the loss of life in the incident, the police said: "Advisor @KVijayKumarIPS & DGP,J&K regret loss of civilian lives at encounter site in Kulgam due to blast after operation was over & civilians rushed to site.They have expressed profound condolences to bereaved families.Such sites should be avoided till properly sanitised."

Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti condoled the loss of life in the tragedy.

"Extremely saddened by the news of kulgam incident , where civilians were once again caught in the cross fire of violence , thus adding fuel to the already volatile situation . All words of condemnation ,condolence sound very hollow at this tragedy ," she tweeted.
