Kolkata, July 11 (IBNS): A day after bringing back entrance test system amid a massive student protest, an admission committee of Jadavpur University (JU) on Wednesday declared fresh dates to conduct examinations for admission in six faculties of versity's Arts department.

After a meeting at university's administrative building, the admission committee announced the entrance tests' schedule as well as the date of publishing merit list.

"Entrance tests for English and Bengali will be conducted on July 21 and 23 respectively while admission examinations for Philosophy and International Relations departments will be held on July 24 and for Comparative Literature and History faculties, the admission tests have been scheduled on July 25," assistant secretary of Jadavpur University Teachers' Association (JUTA), Partha Pratim Roy, told IBNS.

"Merit lists for admission in those departments will be published after 6 pm. on August 3 and admission procedures will be continued at the campus from August 8 to 10," Roy said.

The senior faculty member said that all details regarding the admission process will be published on the official website of Jadavpur University.

Meanwhile, registrar of Kolkata's prestigious university, Chiranjib Bhattacharya, confirmed that there will be no outsider's involvement in the admission process.

"Teachers of these departments will be involved in the entrance tests and there will be no outsourcing in the admission process," Chiranjib Bhattacharya told IBNS.

Following an Executive Council (EC) meeting, the university on Tuesday late night brought back entrance tests for six faculties in Arts department.

Earlier on July 4, the EC of Jadavpur University announced to scrap entrance examination for admission in undergraduate courses in the university's Arts department following which a large number of students had begun agitation inside the campus while a large number of professors stepped down from the admission process to protest against the institute's decision.

Demanding entrance tests for a transparent admission process, as many as 20 students of the university went on an indefinite fast from Friday (July 6) night when four of them were admitted to hospital as their health conditions deteriorated.

After the university declared to restore admission tests, protesting students called off their hunger strike and agitation.

"Our movement has gained a huge success as university accepted majority of our demands- entrance test system has been brought back and there will be no outsourcing in the admission process," a student of JU told IBNS.

"We don't thing there is any need to continue our movement," he added.
