Indian tourists can pay in Indian Rupees with local currency settlement agreement, says Maldives Finance Minister

Maldives finance minister Moosa Zameer has said Indian tourists can now pay in India Rupees since his nation is working for a local currency settlement with India.

Finance Minister Moosa Zameer told WION news channel: "Local currency settlement agreements that we are coming in, it will be easier for local businesses to source from India and pay in Indian rupees. And Indian tourists will come to the Maldives to pay in Indian rupees to the locals."

The two nations are working on the usage of  Indian currency in the country.
The
Maldives is known for attracting a large number of tourists from across the globe every year.

Indian PM Narendra Modi visited Maldives for two days reently to attend the country's Independence Day celebration as Chief Guest.

Narendra Modi on Thursday met with Maldives President Mohamed Muizzu at the President's Office in Male to hold bilateral talks and deepen cooperation between the two countries.

Ahead of the meeting, the Prime Minister was received by President Muizzu and accorded a ceremonial welcome at Republic Square.

The Prime Minister expressed heartfelt appreciation for the gracious hospitality extended to him and his delegation and conveyed his best wishes on the historic occasion of the 60th anniversary of the independence of Maldives as also on the special occasion of the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two nations.

The two leaders reflected on the deep bonds of friendship and trust that have been built over centuries, strengthened by strong people-to-people ties.
