Male: The Indian Embassy in the Maldives on Thursday rejected the reports claiming that Indian government was involved in reportedly transiting Sri Lankan President Gotabaya Rajapaksa through Maldives.

The Embassy said in a tweet, "High Commission categorically denies baseless reports that suggest that Govt. of India was involved in the reported transit of Gotabaya through the Maldives."

The tweet came in response to some media reports, which alleged that the Indian Government was involved in the reported transit of Rajapaksa.

Earlier, the High Commission of India in Sri Lanka had also refuted media reports that it had facilitated Rajapaksa's escape amid violent protests amid a worsening economic crisis.

The Sri Lankan President, along with his wife and two security officials, had fled the Island nation on Wednesday.
