I-T returns: Jayalalithaa, Sasikala skip court

| | Jun 09, 2014, at 06:22 pm
Chennai, June 9 (IBNS) Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa and her close aide Sasikala Natarajan on Monday skipped appearing in a Chennai court in connection with an income tax case.

Sasikala said she was too unwell to attend the court proceedings. while Jayalalithaa said she had prior commitments to fulfill.

In January, the Supreme Court had said Jayalalithaa will face trial in a lower court for not filing Income Tax (I-T) returns between 1991 and 1994.

However, the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) supremo said she did not file the I-T returns as she had no income to show in those three years.

The I-T department had filed the case against her in the apex court.

The Supreme Court ordered the lower court to finish Jayalalithaa's trial within four months.
