HRD review panel suggests scrapping of UGC

| | Apr 02, 2015, at 12:41 am
New Delhi, Apr 1 (IBNS): Criticizing the University Grants Commission (UGC), a review committee has now suggested that the Commission should be scrapped since it has failed to fulfill its duty, media reports said on Wednesday.
The review committee panel has recommended that the UGC should be replaced by a national higher education authority.

The committee has also suggested other measures to improve working of UGC in the report in case the scrapping of the commission is not possible.

However, CNN-IBN quoting sources, reported that it is highly unlikely that the UGC will be completely scrapped.

The committee was set up by the Human Resource Development Ministry just six months back to look into the workings of the UGC.

The panel has also suggested that  the UGC chairman should go out on the field and check the functioning of the state units instead of merely working from the office.
