'Hope peace and stability will be restored': PM Modi welcomes US-Iran peace deal
New Delhi/IBNS: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has welcomed the understanding reached between the United States and Iran to end hostilities in West Asia, expressing hope that it would restore peace and stability in the region.
Modi Backs Efforts to End Conflict
In a post on X, Modi said: "I welcome the understanding reached between the United States and Iran on ending the conflict in West Asia, which has caused serious economic disruption across the world and led to loss of life in many countries."
The Prime Minister said India hopes the implementation of the understanding will help restore normalcy in the region.
"India hopes that the implementation of this understanding will help restore peace and stability in the region and ensure the freedom of navigation and commerce."
Modi also expressed optimism that discussions on unresolved issues would culminate in a lasting settlement.
"We look forward to deliberations on the remaining issues reaching a sustainable final agreement."

Trump Announces Agreement
US President Donald Trump on Monday announced that Washington and Tehran had reached an agreement aimed at ending hostilities in the region.
The arrangement is expected to come into effect on Friday.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump declared:
"The Deal with the Islamic Republic of Iran is now complete."
Iran Confirms Understanding
Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi also confirmed the agreement.
Quoting him, the Iranian Consulate in Hyderabad posted on X: "The immediate and permanent end of the war and all military operations on various fronts, including Lebanon, will be announced starting tonight."
Tehran Says It Is Not a Formal Peace Deal
However, Gharibabadi stressed that the understanding should not be interpreted as a formal peace agreement.
"This is not a peace deal. This is a memorandum of understanding (MoU) aimed at stopping U.S.-Israeli war crimes against other nations—crimes that will never be erased from the collective memory of Iranians."
The Iranian official claimed that Tehran had emerged stronger from the conflict.
"We defeated the U.S. on the military battlefield, and in this memorandum they pledged to end the war. Iran's armed forces will always have their hand on the trigger to confront the conspiracies of the enemies."
Details of Agreement Yet to Emerge
While both sides have acknowledged the understanding, the precise terms and scope of the agreement remain unclear.
Further details are expected to emerge in the coming days as Washington and Tehran move towards implementing the arrangement.
