Sonam Raghuvanshi, the main accused in the murder of her husband, Raja Raghuvanshi, during their honeymoon in Meghalaya, has been granted bail by a court in Shillong after three previous pleas were rejected, media reports said.

She has spent 10 months in jail.

The bail plea said the investigation was complete, the chargesheet had been filed, and Sonam had cooperated fully with the probe.

Her father and cousin have reached Shillong to submit surety bonds, and her release is expected soon.

Murder during honeymoon shocked the nation

The case dates back to May 2025, when Raja and Sonam went missing during a honeymoon trip to Sohra in East Khasi Hills.

Days later, Raja’s body was found in a deep gorge near a waterfall, triggering a major search and murder investigation.

Lover, 3 others still in custody

Police later detained Sonam in Uttar Pradesh and accused her of conspiring with alleged lover Raj Kushwaha and three others to kill Raja.

A 790-page chargesheet has since been filed in the case. Kushwaha and the other three accused remain behind bars.
