High Court quashed Gujarat Government notification for ten per cent EBC quota

Ahmedabad, Aug 4 (IBNS) : The Gujarat High Court on Thursday quashed the Gujarat government notification on providing ten per cent quotas for economically backward Classes (EBC) among the upper castes in educational institutions, reports said.

The High Court heard four different petitions by four different people against the notification.

In April, the BJP government in Gujarat had announced the EBC quota among upper castes at a time when an agitation by the Patidar community was going on to press for  OBC (other backward classes) status.

Challenging the notification, the  petitions filed by social activists, students and parents, contended that the ten per cent provision is against the limit of 50 per cent  reservation.
