HC puts West Bengal Minister Madan Mitra under house arrest

Kolkata, Nov 5 (IBNS): Days after he was released on bail, the Calcutta High Court on Thursday put West Bengal Minister Madan Mitra under house arrest till Nov 17.

A regular bench of the Calcutta High Court is all set to hear the case related to the multi-crore Saradha chit fund scam on that day.

The court's division bench which comprised of Justice Joymalya Bagchi gave the order while hearing a petition filed by the CBI that had pleaded for Mitra's bail cancellation.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Tuesday moved the Calcutta High Court to get revoked West Bengal Minister and Saradha ponzi scam accused Madan Mitra's bail, granted on Saturday by the Alipore Court here, setting him free after about 11 months of captivity.

Mitra is one of the chief accused in the Saradha chit fund scam case.

He was being held in jail for last 324 days and spent maximum days in state's only government owned super-speciality hospital- SSKM, reports said.
