Hathras case: Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra meet family members of victims 

After meeting the family members, Rahul Gandhi tweeted that he realised their pain.

"I assured them that we are standing by them in this difficult time and will do our utmost to bring them to justice.," he tweeted.

"The UP government will not be able to act arbitrarily even if it wants to because now the whole country is standing to bring justice to the daughter of this country," he said.

Vadra, who first embraced the mother and sister-in-law of the victim, told media,"The family wants a judicial inquiry into the incident and removal of the District Magistrate. They also want security."

"The family couldn't see their daughter for the one last time. UP CM Yogi Adityanath should understand his responsibility. Till the time justice is delivered, we'll continue this fight," she added.

It was also reported that Rahul Gandhi also handed over a cheque of some compensation to the father of the victim. But the amount was not disclosed, reports UNI news agency.

The Congress delegation was also accompanied by the senior leader in the Lok Sabha Adhir Ranjan Choudhury and K C Venugopal. 

The Congress delegation reached Bulgari village at around 1930 hours and after one hour stay they returned back to New Delhi.

Earlier, a major scuffle was reported at the DND on the entry point of UP from Delhi, when Gandhi and Vadra were coming to Hathras. Police had to lathi charge on the Congress workers who were trying to join Rahul-Priyanka to Hathras.

Later, UP police only permitted five people to go to Hatras.  

Amid massive protests across the country, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath ordered a Central Bureau Investigation (CBI) probe into the Hathras fatal gangrape incident on Saturday.

The Chief Minister's Office (CMO) has put up a tweet informing about Adityanath's order of a CBI probe.

The Yogi Adityanath government has come under attack after the 19-year old, who belongs to the lowest rung of caste system prevailing in the north Indian state, was allegedly dragged by her dupatta, gangraped by four men, got her spinal cord damaged and her tongue cut.

Two weeks after the incident, which occurred on Sept 14, the girl succumbed to her injuries at a Delhi hospital last Tuesday.

In an even more shocking incident, the dead body of the girl was cremated by police officials in the dead of night denying the family members a look at the victim for the last time in Uttar Pradesh, which is ruled by Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).  

Earlier, Adityanath had set up a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe into the heinous crime and also ordered a trial against the accused in a fast-track court.
