Former Congress veteran S M Krishna joins BJP

New Delhi, Mar 22 (IBNS): Former Congress veteran S M Krishna, who earlier served various government posts, formally joined the Bharatiya Janata Party on Wednesday.

Apart from External Affairs Minister of India, Krishna was earlier the Chief Minister of the Karnataka state of India.

Referring to old days of his politics as a Congress leader, Krishna said: " It has been a great political journey so far."

He cited the development of India under BJP rule as the sole reason for his shift from Congress to saffron party.

Praising Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Krishna said: "I see a great India emerging under the leadership of PM Modi and Amit Shah as the President of BJP."

"India have reached a stage where other countries feel jealous the way we have emerged and re-emerged," former Karnataka CM said.

Welcoming the decade-old Congress leader into the party, BJP President Amit Shah said: "S M Krishna is a valuable politician. I welcome him heartily."

Shah even tried to draw a link between Krishna's induction to the party with the success of the nation under BJP rule.

"The joining of S M Krishna is an indication that India will move forward with BJP," he added.

Congress ruled Karnataka is about to go to poll in 2018.
