Every tactic to topple govt failed in Rajasthan: Ashok Gehlot after trust vote win

Jaipur/IBNS: After winning the trust vote in Rajasthan Assembly, Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on Friday launched a veiled attack on the opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and said every tactic failed to topple the elected government in the desert state.

Ending another crucial chapter in the political paradigm of Rajasthan, CM Ashok Gehlot-led government earlier in the day won the trust vote in the state assembly.

Without naming the BJP, Gehlot in a tweet said winning the trust vote in the Assembly is a message to the forces that are trying to destabilize elected governments in the country.

"Winning the trust vote in the Assembly is a message to the forces that are trying to destabilize elected govts in the country. Their every tactic failed in Rajasthan. It is the people’s unwavering trust in us & unity of our Congress MLAs that has brought this victory," his tweet read.

Later speaking to reporters, Gehlot said, "The opposition, that is the BJP, tried to topple the Congress government in several states but failed here. During the debate, they had nothing to say and they realised they failed here. This win is credited to all the MLAs who stayed united."

The homecoming of rebel Congress leader Sachin Pilot and his 18 loyalist MLAs, followed by the truce meeting with Gehlot, played a crucial role in the turn of events in Rajasthan where the Congress government was in the brink of collapse.

As the Rajasthan Assembly, convened for an urgent session, resumed at  1 PM on Friday, the ruling Congress government tabled a proposal for a floor test.

State Parliamentary Affair Minister Shanti Dhariwal moved a motion of confidence in the Assembly.

Gehlot, who earlier blamed Pilot for conspiring with the BJP, said that he was all for "forgive and forget" and moving on  "for the sake of saving democracy."

The BJP wanted to repeat what it did in Manipur, Goa, Karnataka and Madhya Pradesh, he alleged.

On Thursday, after a month of public clash, Gehlot and Pilot came together for the first time for a meeting in Jaipur where they shook hands and later smiled for the camera.

Sachin Pilot was invited to Gehlot's home for a meeting of Congress MLAs, seen as a 'homecoming' and 'truce' talk with the party leadership in the state after a month-long rebel by the former deputy.
