Raipur, Mar 11 (IBNS) : Eleven personnel of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) were killed when underground Maoists ambushed a Road Opening Party in Chhattisgarh's Sukma district on Saturday, reports said.

Three other jawans were injured.

The Maoist rebels opened indiscriminate fire on the ROP between Bhejji and Kuttacheru at around 9 am.

Initial reports said the Maoists  looted weapons from the slain security personnel and took away their wireless radio sets.

Expressing his grief over the incident, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on his tweeter handle : "Saddened by the killing of CRPF personnel in Sukma. Tributes to the martyrs & condolences to their families. May the injured recover quickly."

The PM said Home Minister Rajnath Singh is going to the spot to take stock of the situation. "Spoke to Home Minister @rajnathsingh Ji on the situation in Sukma. He is going to Sukma to take stock of the situation."

Reports quoted the Home Minister as saying that the  Centre is in direct communication with the state government.

"Those who perpetrated this incident in Sukma will be brought to justice," he said.

Additional reinforcement has been rushed to the spot of ambush for rescue and relief operations.

Further details are awaited.
