Election was polarized by our opposition: Sonia

New Delhi, May 19 (IBNS) Congress supremo Sonia Gandhi, whose offer to resign was rejected by the Congress Working Committee (CWC), on Monday said the manner in which the recently held Lok Sabha polls was 'polarized' by the rivals was 'worrisome'.
The Congress Working Committee (CWC) on Monday rejected the resignation of party President Sonia Gandhi and that of her son Rahul Gandhi, who is the Vice President, at its meeting convened to review the party's worst ever performance in the 16th Lok Sabha polls, where it managed to bag just 44 out of the 543 seats.
 
After the CWC meeting, party leader Janardan Dwivedi quoting Sonia Gandhi said: "  The way this election was polarized by our rivals is worrisome said Smt Sonia Gandhi ."
 
Addressing the press conference, he said: "Srimati Sonia Gandhi said that she takes the full responsibility of this defeat, and offer to resign."
 
" Dr Manmohan Singh said that I take full responsibility of the loss of this defeat as far as government functioning is concerned. Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi said that he takes full responsibility of this loss and offered to resign," he said.
 
Dwivedi said the the CEC accepted with 'humility' the verdict of the people in the Lok Sabha polls.
 
Despite meeting a poor result at the Lok Sabha polls this year, the CWC, however, 'appreciated' the efforts of Sonia Gandhi and her son Rahul Gandhi for the party during the elections.
 
He said: "The CWC appreciates the effort of Sonia Gandhi and Vice-President  Rahul Gandhi of their effort in these elections.
 
"The Congress leader said the result showed that there were 'shortcomings and failure'.
 
The CWC congratulated former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh for his 'sober and visionary leadership' in the past 10 years.
 
" The CWC is absolutely is clear in its mind that whether in goverbment or in opposition it is bound to defend the idea of India," Dwivedi said.
 
All the members of the Congress Working Committee (CWC) including former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Congress President Sonia Gandhiand party's Vice President Rahul Gandhi were present at the meeting.
 
Emerging from the long meeting, Congress leader Amarinder Singh, who has won the Lok Sabha elections from the Amritsar constituency, said Sonia and Rahul offered to resign taking the blame of the Lok Sabha polls debacle but the CWC rejected it.
 
"There is no question of Sonia and Rahul resigning. Both offered to resign but CWC rejected it. It is a collective responsibility.Everyone is to be blamed," he said.
 
Decimating the ruling Congress in a landslide victory, Narendra Modi led the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to win 285 seats out of 543 that made it the first party to cross the majority mark of 272 on its own in over 30 years.
 
Riding on an unprecedented wave of expectations coupled with widespread resentment against the ruling Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA), Modi almost singled-handedly bought the BJP-led National Deocratic Alliance (NDA) to a 340-seat-tally.
 
Sonia and Rahul Gandhi-led Congress party meanwhile was routed to just 44 seats, a huge 162 seats short of last time, ending Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s tenure with a humiliating blow.
