ED taking directives from Modi govt: Congress

| @indiablooms | Jun 23, 2022, at 08:43 pm

New Delhi: The Congress on Thursday slammed the Enforcement Directorate, alleging that it was taking 'enforced directives' from the Modi government while turning a blind eye to corruption cases involving BJP leaders.

The party demanded to know why it was 'mum' on various issues including the Vyapam scam in Madhya Pradesh.

"ED can no longer be called the Enforcement Directorate. It has now been reduced to taking 'enforced directives' from the Modi government," Congress spokesperson Gourav Vallabh said.

The ED questioned former Congress President Rahul Gandhi for over 50 hours in connection with a case linked to the National Herald newspaper.

Vallabh said: "Rahul Gandhi's interrogation over the last few days was clearly done to malign his reputation and an example of a political stunt. All the central agencies have been reduced to pawns in the hands of the government. All these agencies have been queuing up to collect their blindfolds only to make a mockery of themselves."

"The PM was allegedly batting for business gains for a private individual in a foreign land. Isn’t this a case of corruption worth investigating? Which bureaucrats or ministers is the ED planning to call for an investigation? Has the ED ever called anyone from the Adani group or is it planning to call to investigate these serious allegations?" he said, citing reports that the Adani group got a project in Sri Lanka due to political pressure.

"Why are ED and other Central agencies 'mum' on other issues? Did ED question Karnataka CM Basavaraj Bommai over alleged corruption? Or Madhya Pradesh CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan in the Vyapam case?" he asked.
