EC holds EVM hacking challenge ; only two parties attend

New Delhi, June 3 (IBNS) : The Election Commission on Saturday held the EVM hacking challenge, demonstrating various security checks in the machine following a controversy over allegation of manipulation of votes, reports said.

The four-hour challenge which began  at 10 am, ended at 2 pm.

However, only two parties, the NCP and the CPI(M), participated in it and they wanted  to understand the functionality of EVMs and discuss and understand technical aspects of EVMs with Technical Expert Committee members.

According to reports, while the CPI(M) delegation watched a demonstration on the various security checks involved with the machines, the NCP team interacted with Commission's technical committee of experts.

Soon after the results of the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections 2017 were announced, the BSP and then, AAP and Congress had raised questions over the credibility of the electronic voting machines.

AAP conducted  a parallel hackathon. Reports quoted  party MLA Saurabh Bharadaj  as saying, “Nobody participating in EVM challenge of ECI. This vindicates our stand that EVM challenge under current conditions was a farce, an eye wash.”
