Demonetisation is a big scam, want high level probe: Mamata Banerjee

Kolkata, Dec 5 (IBNS): Calling the Central government's move of scrapping Rs. 500/1000 notes a big financial scandal of BJP, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday demanded an investigation into it.

During a discussion on demonetisation on the opening day of West Bengal Assembly's winter session, Banerjee demanded a high level probe into demonetisation, under the observation of Supreme Court's Chief Justice or any other justice.

"We are not against actions taken on black money and black marketeers, we are opposing the sudden decision to demonetise 500/1000 notes, harassing general people of the country," Mamata Banerjee said.

"Strict action should be taken against the black money hoarders," Banerjee added.

The Chief Minister alleged that the West Bengal unit of BJP bought lands in and around Kolkata before the announcement of demonetisation.

"BJP bought lands in Baruipur, Dumdum and near Belgharia Expressway just prior to the demonetisation move. How could they know about the 'secret' decision?" the Trinamool supremo said.

Banerjee also asked all opposition parties in Bengal, except BJP, to be united to fight against the Centre's decision of banning 500/1000 rupees notes.

The BJP-led NDA government in the Centre on Nov 8 announced scrapping of old Rs. 500 and Rs. 1000 currency notes.
