Delhi Jal Board calls Kejriwal's 'Haryana poisoned Yamuna river' claim 'factually incorrect', Nayab Saini demands AAP chief's apology

New Delhi/IBNS: The Delhi Jal Board has rejected Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) supremo Arvind Kejriwal's claim that the Haryana government has poisoned the Yamuna river, media reports said.

The board has posted on X, "The statement of former Chief Minister and present Chief Minister that the Haryana government has released 'poison in the water' is false, misleading, and factually incorrect.

"Such alarmist statements amount to fear mongering. Water in river Yamuna is of the same quality."

Kejriwal, a former Delhi chief minister, made the startling claim in the run up to the assembly elections in Delhi.

The AAP supremo accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government in Haryana of polluting raw water supply to the national capital.

He also warned the poisoned water may cause massive casualties in Delhi.

Countering the allegations, Haryana chief minister Nayab Saini called Kejriwal's comments "cheap politics".

Saini said, "Kejriwal should tell people how the water was poisoned. He should tell people how the water was stopped from entering Delhi because Haryana hasn't stopped it. He should reveal how many fishes have been killed by the poison?"

The Haryana CM added, "Kejriwal has no match when it comes to doing cheap and untruthful politics. Kejriwal insulted the land where he was born. Kejriwal should immediately apologize to the people of Haryana and Delhi."

In a counter-attack, Kejriwal said he won't budge down in raising the issue as it would affect the residents of Delhi.

"How can I remain mum on such an issue? They are threatening me with cases! I dare them to do it," the former Delhi CM fumed.

The faceoff between Kejriwal's AAP and the BJP has intensified as the Delhi elections are approaching.

The cleanliness of Yamuna river has emerged as a major issue for the February 5 elections in Delhi. The results will be declared on February 8.
