Delhi govt says even-odd rule for cars from 8 am to 8 pm
New Delhi, Dec 8 (IBNS): The Delhi government on Tuesday announced that its even-odd formula for private cars in the national capital, to be implemented from Jan 1, will be followed between 8 am and 8 pm, media reports said.
The decision was taken at a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.
Transport Minister Gopal Rai said odd-numbered cars would be allowed on odd dates, like January 1, 3 and 5, and even-numbered cars on even dates.
On Sundays, all private cars will be allowed to ply on roads.
However, no decision has been taken on whether to leave women and disabled out of the ban.
Earlier, Kejriwal promised to scrap the system if people find it hard to follow it in the first 15 days.
He had said that he and his ministers will also follow the rule.
From January 1, the vehicles with number plates ending with an odd number will be allowed to ply one day and those ending with an even number the next day.
However, this rule is not applicable on public transport.
The government informed that it hoped to cut down vehicular pollution in the state by half with this measure.
