CPI(M )leader Goutam Deb catches swine flu, critical in hospital
Kolkata, Mar 17(IBNS) CPI(M) central committee member Gautam Deb was admitted to a city hospital on Tuesday for swine flu treatment.
Hospital sources said Deb has been tested positive the H1N1 virus following tests and has been put on ventillation. His condition is stated to be critical.
Rupak Barua, chief executive officer (CEO) of AMRI hospital, Salt Lake told IBNS that a medical team of seven experts has been constituted for treatment of the CPI(M) leader.
The board is supposed to check his condition every day and release a medical bulletin.
Deb's family physician Shubhasish Chakraborty said that the health condition of the veteran leader was critical but stable.
"He was suffering from high fever from Mar 15. Tuesday morning his fever reached to 105 degree and there was major breathing trouble. After checking him up, I decided to admit him to AMRI where he was shifted to AMRI's CCU immediately," he told IBNS.
After admission, his blood sample was sent to laboratory to test for swine flu. At 1 pm on Tuesday, presence of H1N1 virus in his blood was confirmed by the lab.
According to the latest update from AMRI hospital, Deb is responding to the treatment. His blood pressure has becomes normal and he his mentally alert.
