Former Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda met Rahul Gandhi, a day after attending the meeting of G-23, the rebel group of the Congress party that has repeatedly called for a complete overhaul in its structure and leadership, media reports said.

According to an NDTV report, Hooda briefed Gandhi on the situation in Haryana and discussed how the party should be strengthened in the state.

Hooda is the first leader from the rebel group to meet with one of the three Gandhis after the meeting which focused on the alleged wrong decisions made by the first family of the Congress causing the recent poll debacle.

It is to be noted that Hooda is engaged in a feud with Haryana Congress chief Selja Kumari, who is believed to be close to the Gandhis.

The report said the G-23 dissidents and some new entrants to the party pitched for a "collective, inclusive leadership" in yesterday's meeting.

The "G-23" or group of dissident leaders within the party met at Ghulam Nabi Azad's home in Delhi amid calls for a complete change in leadership.

Those who attended the meeting include included Kapil Sibal, Shashi Tharoor, Anand Sharma, Manish Tewari, Bhupinder Hooda, Akhilesh Prasad Singh, Prithviraj Chavan, Raj Babbar, PJ Kurien and Mani Shankar Aiyer.

On Sunday at the Congress Working Committee (CWC) meeting called to discuss the poll results, it was decided that Sonia Gandhi will continue to be the interim chief of the Congress.

The G-23 had written to Sonia Gandhi in 2020 seeking a "full-time and visible leadership" following a series of earlier poll defeats.

According to the report, Rahul Gandhi agreed with the suggestions that had been put forward at the G-23 meet.
