Congress-JDS alliance wins four seats in Karnataka bypolls

New Delhi, Nov 6 (IBNS): In a major boost for Congress, the party along with its ally partner Janata Dal (Secular) has won four out of five seats in the Karnataka bypolls.

According to the results, which released on Tuesday, the alliance won in Ballari and Mandya parliamentary seats. It also won Jamkhandi and Ramanagara assembly seats.

In Ramanagara, BJP candidate L Chandrasekhar gave a walkover even before the polls by joining the Congress. 

The Shivamogga Lok Sabha constituency seat went to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

The by-elections were held on last Saturday.

Following the success, Congress president Rahul Gandhi tweeted: "Congratulations to all the workers & leaders of the Congress party in Karnataka on the decisive victory of the Congress-JD(S) alliance in the By-Polls in the state. I thank each & every one of you, for your dedication & hard work that made this victory possible.

The Congress in its official Twitter handle said: "The sweeping victory of the Congress - JD(S) alliance in the #KarnatakaBypolls is just a teaser for what is in storefor the BJP next year. Congratulations to all the winners. #KarnatakaRejectsBJP."

Presently, the Congress and the JD(S) are running the Karnataka government together.

Karnataka Chief Minister H. D. Kumaraswamy also appreciated the victory of the JDS-Congress alliance in the Karnataka bypolls and said it reflected the acceptance of the 'coalition government' in the state.

"A resounding victory for the coalition partners #JDS and #INC in #KarnatakaBypolls displays the popularity and acceptance of the coalition govt in Karnataka.
I thank our people for the overwhelming support to the government and its policies," the Chief Minister tweeted.

He said the victory gave strength to his government.

"This victory gives more strength to the govt to move ahead with its pro-development and pro-people governance. I congratulate all the winners.
#KarnatakaByElection2018 #KarnatakaByElections2018," he said.

Thanking people of the state, he posted: "My heart felt thanks to the people of Karnataka for their support, and to the the party workers of #JDS and #INC for their hard work, unity and contribution towards the victory of coalition partners in #Karnatakabypolls ."
